Beguiling Mexican actor Pablo Gómez is making his lead feature debut in Sergio Tovar Velarde’s mesmerizing new film, The Divine Tragedy (La Divina Tragedia), world premiering at Boston’s Wicked Queer on April 11, 2026.
Set in Mexico City, the narrative focuses on two startlingly different half-brothers who are forced to co-exist due to life-happenings. Roy (Gómez) is a young, sexually active gay man who likes to party hard. Cristián (Artús Chávez) is a former telenovela actor whose husband of 24 years has just kicked him out. Cristián is a much more proprietary and traditional gay man, used to living a life of luxury, so moving in with messy, debauched Roy (his only option since they co-own an apartment) is a shock to his system.
One of Roy’s sexual conquests is the handsome Esteban (Christian Ramos) who lives in his building. Esteban is partnered but falls hard for Roy, who seems to return his feelings, but his sexual compulsive behavior gets in the way.
The two brothers develop a bond and do their best to navigate their own propensities towards self-sabotage.
Writer-director Sergio Tovar Velarde (Four Moons) has fashioned a truly captivating feature, often playing like a more perverse and restless Almodóvar pelicula with pulsating music that compliments the bold, erratic style.
The excellent ensemble is led by the sexy and hypnotic Gómez who delivers a startling and authentic portrait of a young gay man plagued by internalized homophobia who lets his inner demons take over when anyone gets too close. One would never guess that this is his feature film debut.
Gómez trained in Dramatic Arts in Mérida, Yucatán and has appeared on television in the series Las Azules (Apple TV) and Married with Children Season 2 (Sony Channel/Vix+). His short film work includes, Nocturna and Talla Zero.
On stage, he has directed and produced over ten theatrical productions, including Por Siempre Juntos.
Upcoming projects also include the stage production Lo Peor de Mis Amigos at Teatro Milán in the Fall.
