VisionQuest star Paul Bettany first burst into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the android Vision back in Avengers: The Age of Ultron. Since then, he’s won hearts as the character explored an unlikely love affair with Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda (a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch). Despite dying in Avengers: Infinity War, Bettany returned to the character (or a variation of it) in Disney+’s Emmy-winning smash WandaVision where he appeared twice: as “Vision,” a reimagined character created in Wanda’s PTSD-spawned television series, and a starkly white version created by the military.
This white Vision returns to Disney+ five years later in VisionQuest, a heady, cerebral exploration of artificial intelligence, fatherhood, grief, and humanity. Yeah, you know, light viewing, right?
In this interview, Paul Bettany talks about returning to the character, which ultimately never left him. He talks about seamlessly stepping back into the role and why it stuck with him these many years since his last performance. He also discusses Vision’s relationship with fatherhood. Finally, he understands how much the audience wanted Bettany’s Vision to reconnect with co-star James Spader’s iconic Ultron.
VisionQuest streams exclusively on Disney+.
