This morning the New York Film Critics Circle deliberated on the winners of their 91st annual NYFCC Awards. The 47 member voting body deliberated across twelve categories offering their own takes on the most noteworthy films of the year.

Similar to the Gotham Awards the night before (with substantial voting overlap) the big winners of the night were One Battle After Another and It Was Just an Accident. The Brazilian Oscar entry The Secret Agent also took home two awards, similar to how it performed with the Cannes jury earlier this year.

In one of the longer debates of the morning the NYFCC spent 30+ minutes going over the wide-open supporting actress lineup – ultimately awarding Amy Madigan for her transformative horror performance in Weapons. This is a major boost both for the veteran actress’s awards chances as well as the horror genre as a whole.

Overall today’s wins continue to signal towards a huge year for both Warner Brothers (One Battle After Another, Sinners, Weapons) dominating the awards conversation and a major year for Neon and their international slate (It Was Just an Accident and The Secret Agent).

That would be great – I really liked it very much. Wagner Moura should also get in for Best Actor, subtle performance.
