With a Venice premiere and a fall release date, Primetime positions itself for awards consideration, including its leading man.

That’s how a lot of us felt after watching the electrifying trailer for Lance Oppenheim’s Primetime, which follows Chris Hansen (Pattinson) at the height of Dateline NBC’s To Catch a Predator popularity.
TCAP stans know what this film is presumably about: The show abruptly ended in 2007 after a predator took his own life on the heels of being caught by the series. David Osit’s 2025 documentary Predators goes into detail about this tragedy as well as the cultural impact of the show.
Like his Odyssey co-star Anne Hathaway, Pattinson is having a great, albeit busy, year. He started 2026 in The Drama with Zendaya, followed by Christopher Nolan’s epic (also with Zendaya), soon Primetime, and then will close out with Dune 3 (also with Zendaya).
So far, his competition in Best Actor would be Matt Damon for The Odyssey, Tom Cruise for Digger, John Malkovich in Wild Horse Nine, and Sebastian Stan in Fjord.
According to recent trends, it’s somewhat crucial for a Best Actor contender’s film to get a Best Picture nomination and a Best Supporting Actress nomination, and while the jury’s out on whether Primetime is a BP contender, having Merritt Weaver in your film is a good omen for this magical formula (maybe she could get her first Oscar nom, too).
