As expected, One Battle After Another went home with several awards from today’s BAFTAs. Paul Thomas Anderson’s Oscar frontrunner received Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and most surprisingly Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn. It’s the latter win that’s more indicative of unexpected shifts in the Oscar race within the less decided categories: namely Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress.

Penn’s win comes against the more recognized Benicio del Toro from the same film and against the presumed frontrunner Stellan Skarsgård. Omitted at The Actor Awards (formerly SAG) and now not winning here at BAFTA (presumed a slam dunk), Skarsgård’s status as frontrunner seems no longer valid. Granted, the Academy could recognize the storied actor with a career win. He’s not out of the woods by any measure, but he needed to start winning something ahead of Oscar voting. What does that say about the Supporting Actor Oscar race? It seems to be a 3-way race between del Toro (critics darling), Skarsgård (legacy play), or Penn (BAFTA winner).

And then there’s the Supporting Actress race, which had finally seemed to settle into line with Teyana Taylor winning most awards. Not so fast, says BAFTA. Sinners‘ subtly brilliant Wunmi Mosaku took home a surprise BAFTA trophy for Supporting Actress. She beat out not only One Battle‘s Taylor, but she also beat Sentimental Value‘s Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas. Weapons sensation Amy Madigan was not nominated at BAFTA. Perhaps her mention at the Oscars will split the witch vote and give the award to Taylor.

Otherwise, here are your full list of 2026 BAFTA winners.
