The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) announced the winners of the 47th Annual Sports Emmy ® Awards tonight. The ceremony, hosted by Roy Wood Jr., award-winning comedian, writer and producer, was presented live at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, New York City. Sunday Night Football (NBC|Peacock) was recognized for Outstanding Live Sports Series, while College Game Day (ESPN) and NFL Live (ESPN) were recognized for Outstanding Sports Studio Show: Weekly and Daily respectively. Mike Tirico took home the trophy for Outstanding Sports Personality: Play-By-Play, Ernie Johnson (TNT|CBS) won for Studio Host, Katie George for Emerging On-Air Talent, Alex Rodriguez for Studio Analyst and Greg Olsen (FOX|NFL Network) won Event Analyst. Steve Bornstein, former CEO of the NFL Network, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant contributions to sports media. The award was presented by Mark Shapiro, President and CEO of TKO Group Holdings, Inc.
The ceremony featured presenters from across the sports community, including: Andrés Cantor (Telemundo), Ian Eagle (CBS Sports), Rich Eisen (NFL Network), Scott Graham (NFL Films), New York Sirens athlete Elle Hartje, NBA Champion Dwight Howard, Brian Kenny (MLB Network), MLB Champion Pedro Martinez (TNT Sports), Mark Shapiro (TKO Group Holdings), Jonathan Scott (TNT Sports), Jenny Taft (FOX Sports), Pablo Torre (Pablo Torre Finds Out), Colleen Wolfe (NFL Network), Nick Wright (FOX Sports).
“In an era defined by endless content and increasingly individualized media consumption, sports television remains one of the few experiences that still consistently brings people together in real time,” said NATAS President and CEO, Adam Sharp. “Tonight we honor the extraordinary professionals whose talent, creativity and innovation bring those dramatic victories, enduring heartbreaking defeats to life.”
The Jim McKay Memorial Scholarship, awarded by the NATAS Foundation to a student pursuing a career in sports television, was presented to Thomas Gamba, a student at Chaminade High School in Garden City, NY. The scholarship honors sportscaster Jim McKay (1921-2008) and was established in 2009, funded by ABC/ESPN, CBS, FOX, HBO and NBC.
For the fifth year, the Coca-Cola Company awarded a $40,000 HBCU Sports Production Grant at the event. Students from Morehouse College took first place, earning a $25,000 grant. Second place went to Florida A&M University, with Delaware State University receiving third place. The work was judged on a creative video and essay addressing this year’s competition theme: “Excellence Beyond the Field: The Impact of Sports on HBCU Students, Campuses and Communities.”

This year’s ceremony was produced by NATAS, with Lara Gates and Adam Sharp serving as Executive Producers and Amy Schmelzer as Head of Sports. The program was directed by John D’Incecco. Voting was tabulated by independent accounting firm Lutz & Carr, LLP.
