Vanity Fair has the first look at Chloé Zhao’s upcoming adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell’s novel Hamnet. The story takes a fictional look at the life of William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) and wife Agnes (Jessie Buckley) following their 11-year-old son’s untimely death. Joe Alwyn and Emily Watson also star in a screenplay from Zhao and O’Farrell. The Focus Features film is a hot fall festival prospect with many tipping it to premiere at next week’s Telluride Film Festival. Awards prospects seem very strong for the presumably emotional historic tale, and I’m very excited to see it (hopefully next week).
Check out Vanity Fair’s story and series of first look photos, which I won’t reproduce here because I don’t want to get sued.
