‘Two Strangers’ Tony Nominee Christiani Pitts On Appreciating ‘This Wild Time’ [VIDEO]

In Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York), Christiani Pitts plays jaded, New Yorker Robin Rainey tasked with picking up her too-excited soon-to-be nephew-in-law, Dougal Todd (Sam Tutty) from the airport. The young man has journeyed from the UK to attend the nuptials of his wealthy father, who he’s never met. Dad is marrying Robin’s rather demanding sister. At first Robin is annoyed by Dougal’s overly buoyant disposition but she begins to warm to his positivity as they are tasked with picking up a super expensive wedding cake.

Two Strangers boasts music by Jim Barne and book and lyrics by Kit Buchan and began life in Ipswich and Northampton in 2019. Last April, Pitts was cast in the U.S. premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The show transferred to Broadway this past November and Pitts recently received her first Tony nomination for Best Actress.

She made her Broadway debut in 2017 in the ensemble of the musical A Bronx Tale. A year later she played Ann Darrow in King Kong on Broadway.

Her TV credits include Elementary, Evil, The Good Fight, Blue Bloods and the miniseries Dead Ringers.

In real-life, Pitts is so the opposite of her jaded character. She’s a sweet, joyful and grateful artist, relishing this wild time. “I think my favorite part has been spending time with peers of mine who I’ve looked up to for a very long time,” she excitedly states.

Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) is currently playing at the Longacre Theatre (220 W. 48th St, NYC). For tickets: TWO STRANGERS.

The Contending had the pleasure of a VIDEO chat with Pitts on her day off!
