It’s not very often that you see films sharing honors, but it’s a clear indication of the passion behind the films. At the fiftieth iteration of the Frameline, the San Francisco International LGBTQ+ Film Festival, Sam McConnell’s Test tied for a top prize with Adrian Chiarella’s conversion therapy thriller from Australia, Leviticus.
Here is the logline with McConnell’s film:
In TEST, Eddie, a small-town bodybuilder chasing a coveted professional card, lives under the watchful devotion of his religious mother Joanne. After a painful loss, he turns to veteran bodybuilder Mike, whose mentorship pulls him into the dangerous world of performance-enhancing drugs—and sparks a confusing attraction that clashes with his conservative church upbringing. As Eddie reconnects with his ex-girlfriend Abby, he is forced to confront the tension between ambition, desire and identity.
