Jackie Tohn On Her Fab New Indie ‘The Floaters,’ Teasing Season 3 Of Emmy-Nom’d ‘Nobody Wants This’ [VIDEO]

In Rachel Israel’s funny and affecting indie, The Floaters, Jackie Tohn passionately dives into the role of Nomi, a struggling musician ousted from her rock band, who apprehensively takes a job supervising “floaters” (kids who didn’t sign up for any activities) at her childhood Jewish summer camp. Her bestie, Mara (Sarah Podemski) runs the camp, which is in dire financial need.

Among her ‘island of misfit toys’ campers are Jonah (Judah Lewis), a young man who doesn’t feel “Jewishy” enough, who pens a rather daring satire on the story of Sodom and Gomorrah–referred to in the film as a play about “butt sex.”

Nomi takes the outsider teens under her wing and, together, they prepare to stage their satiric show, which becomes a big deal when a bet leads to lots of money being at stake, funds that could save the camp.

The film is about the unlikeliest of bonds forming when people come together for a greater purpose. In this case to create art. Nomi perspicaciously says to the group, “Art doesn’t have to be palatable to be good…art subverts expectations.”

No surprise to anyone who has seen her on Nobody Wants This, Tohn delivers a raw, sensitive, hilarious and poignant performance. She’s such an infectiously charming and alluring presence, it’s impossible not to root for her character.

Speaking of Nobody Wants This, it was just nominated for a Best Comedy Emmy. On the hit Netflix series, Tohn plays Esther Roklov, the no-bullshit, perpetually irked, yet oddly lovable wife of bumbling Sasha (Timothy Simons), the brother of Rabbi Noah (Adam Brody), who is dating shiksa podcaster Joanne (Kristin Bell). At the end of season two, Esther found herself at a turning point. Season three just wrapped filming and is scheduled to drop sometime later this year.

Tohn’s film credits include Deuces Wild (2002), Postal (2007), Return to Sleepaway Camp (2008), Jem and the Holograms (2015), Sisters (2015), ChiPs (2017), A Futile and Stupid Gesture (2018) and Old Dads (2023).

She appeared in episodes of The Nanny, The Sopranos, Angel, Veronica Mars, The Closer, CSI: NY, Castle and The Good Place, before snagging a major role on all three seasons of the acclaimed Netflix series GLOW. Stints on The Boys and Gen V followed.

The actress also has numerous stage credits.

The Floaters, released by Brainstorm Media, is currently in theaters in New York and expands to L.A., Chicago and beyond beginning July 17, 2026.
