Desperate Housewives episode nineteen, “Live Alone and Like It,” offers valuable lessons about kindness and ice cream as sexual metaphor.

We’re back after a few weeks off to see about some 2025 Emmy content. “Live Alone and Like It,” Desperate Housewives’ nineteenth episode, shows the darker side of Lynette Scavo, eventually leading to a revelation about humanity that should resonate today. Mrs. McCluskey collapses in front of her house, witnessed by Lynette. Against her darkest desires, Lynette calls the ambulance and joins Mrs. McCluskey on her road to recovery. That leads the two frenemies down a strange path, eventually resulting in a poignant revelation about humanity and empathy.

There are no similar revelations in the Solis household. There, Gabby and Carlos seem to be in a race to embody the World’s Most Troubled Spouse. Will Carlos tear up the post-nuptial document? How far will Gabby go to receive free shoes and nice dinners? Find out in this week’s recap!

Sad Susan Week continues (now in its third unbearable iteration). There’s really nothing more to say about that.

Finally, Bree faces Andrew’s sexuality head-on and leverages the power of the church. When that fails, it forces Bree to, yet again, make an incredibly embarrassing revelation about Rex’s sexual preferences. And Andrew, bitter from Bree’s stunning opinions about his afterlife, concocts a dramatic scheme of his own, which Joey believes 100% confirms Andrew’s preferences. We’re not talking about ice cream flavors here (see Andrew’s tortured metaphor).

If you’ve never seen Desperate Housewives, then now is a great time to start. The series is available to stream on Hulu / Disney+. Catch up with our podcasts here! Next week, we look at episode twenty, “Fear No More,” where Gabby throws a “going-away” party for the prison-bound Carlos.
