The Contending weighs in with their 2025 Comedy Emmy predictions. Will The Studio take everything? Find out below!
The 2025 Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced live on Sunday night, and each year, they feel less and less fun to predict. It’s not as if there isn’t great television to celebrate. Instead, the first instinct is to understand which television series the Television Academy will completely embrace. They’ve been doing this ever since COVID and Schitt’s Creek. When they like a show, they tend to go up and down their ballots and check nearly everything associated with that show. It’s not a foolproof theory. There are always exceptions, naturally. Yet, you’ll see that theory in play with The Contending’s Comedy Emmy predictions.
AppleTV’s The Studio had a great night at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, winning nine awards. That was pretty much expected as it’s a very well crafted show. Now, the trick is to figure out how that love will extend to the Primetime Emmys. This year, the competition for Comedy Emmys isn’t quite as tough as it has been in previous years. It’s really down to two shows: The Studio and Hacks. It is a battle of the craft-heavy show (The Studio) versus a show that has never done particularly well on the Creative Arts nights (Hacks).
The safe bet, based on the Creative Arts reception, would be to go with The Studio in most categories. Yet, there’s a lingering voice in the back of my head that urges caution when predicting it across the board. Yes, online voices loved The Studio, but after the first few episodes, those voices seemed to fall mostly silent. The Television Academy surprised everyone last year by awarding Hacks Comedy Series over the expected second season of The Bear. Anything could happen with Comedy Series, but the winner will be between those two.
Personally, I’m going with The Studio, but I have a feeling that this may be Hannah Einbinder’s year to finally win Supporting Actress. She’ll presumably pair with Jean Smart, who would win her fourth award for her role as Deborah Vance. But Catherine O’Hara could win for her role in The Studio. I wouldn’t be incredibly upset by that as she’s a national treasure. One thing pointing in her favor is Brian Cranston’s win for Guest Actor. His most talked about scenes happen in the final two episodes of the freshman season. Those happen to be O’Hara’s finest scenes as well.
I’m probably letting my personal preferences get the best of me.
Anyway, here are our Comedy Emmy predictions. Find out who wins on Sunday night when the Primetime Emmy Awards air live on CBS at 8pm ET.

Well, having a perfect guest appearance by Mr Martin Scorsese in the spectacular pilot won't hurt its chances.
I'd prefer The Studio have made one or two more episodes so it's closer to 10 instead of 7. Otherwise, you may as well just put it in Limited Series. Or do what the Saturn Awards have done for years. Best TV Presentation, which is a good catch-all for shows that produce between 6 and 8 episodes.
Opinions unchanged elsewhere. ABH and ABS. Anything But Hacks; Anyone But Smart.
