Megan McLachlan chats with Clayton Farris, the hot dog-and-carrot-loving husband in Zach Cregger’s Weapons.
Clayton Farris loves to read Reddit theories about Weapons.
“Julia Garner’s character is in the grocery store, and there’s like the Powerball number,” says Farris. “The amount you win is 666. There are all these little Easter eggs people are finding. So it’s fun to go along that journey with them.”
It has been quite a ride for Farris and Weapons. First, the film became a monster hit when it was released over the summer. Now it’s experiencing a bump in popularity since it’s streaming on HBO Max.
You will DEFINITELY remember Farris’s character in the film. He plays Terry, husband to Marcus (Benedict Wong) — the one who opens the door to the wrong person.
“What I love about Terry is just his generosity and open heart to let someone like this crazy lady in. In my head, I’m like, this is how I am in real life. When I meet people, especially older people, I want to spend as much time with this person as I can because they’re always the most interesting people to talk to and hang out with. They’re always going to drink more wine than you.”
But of course, Gladys (Amy Madigan) does NOT want to gossip and drink wine. She has other plans.
Farris Describes Weapons Movie Gladys House Scene
“[Zach Cregger] was like, ‘Are you okay with going out like this on camera?’ And I was like, I’ve never wanted anything more. Even though it’s a creepy scene, it’s fun doing that sort of stuff. Everyone’s just having a blast because we’re getting to play these heightened moments.”
Speaking of Madigan, Farris is excited for this awards season, particularly with Aunt Gladys.
“I can’t wait to see what happens with Amy Madigan and the Oscars and all that. It’s going to be very exciting. I called it when I saw it.”
I had a great conversation with Farris where we both fan-girled and fan-boyed out over Cregger’s use of “Beware of Darkness” and discussed his character’s memeable meal with his husband. Watch or listen to our conversation below!
