Glad to see Mr Lachman for Maria made it but that film deserved more.
Also Flow for International pic? AMPAs is doing nicely this year. If only they'd glanced at His Three Daughters a bit more.
Still, Emilia Perez is an excellent pick and would love to see it win most categories.. Not only some people will be wickedly put in their place, it is actually a flawed yet great film that deserves it through artistic merit, not just because of the woke conspiracy theories from American (Or is global?) alt-righters.
RIP Maria……
Root for the movie if you want, but no right wingers would be chastened or humbled by an Emilia Perez win.
Yeah, they'd be totally happy and OK with a non-American film with a transgender woman in the lead winning. Not at all. Biological Sex executive order or not.
Plenty of them would be happy because it would give them something to gripe about for years.
Another Luca-hating group…
My biggest surprise of the day was the Challengers omission from Editing, seconded by Daniel Craig getting in at SAG but missing here.
Yeah, I expected three nominations for Challengers and one for Queer, although the two films were worthy of at least a dozen between them.
Really pretty predictable and dull choices mostly. Hard to get excited about much here. Sad that Kidman couldn't crack that super weak 5 when so many stronger actors were left off like Jean-Baptiste and Swinton. Best Actress should be renamed 2nd Best Actress this year. And Supporting is even more of a joke. Happy SEPT 5 got a screenplay nomination. Oh, and THE LAST RANGER for Live Action. And I'M STILL HERE for Best Picture. Hoping it upsets and wins International Feature!!!!
We need a "Poor Edward Berger" campaign ASAP.
I've seen every Best Picture winner on the big screen going back to 1996 (including Nomadland during the pandemic). This year I've seen 7 of the 10 nominees. Unseen are The Substance, Nickel Boys and I'm Still Here. Hoping they come to my neck of the woods soon! (and in the case of The Substance, maybe re-released?)
I know many were predicting it but having come late to the Conclave watching party, I am actually shocked by the Rossellini nom …
