Sean Baker (Anora) Takes Home The Top Prize at the 77th Annual DGA Awards [ALL WINNERS]

It’s a busy night in Hollywood tonight with the director’s guild announcing the winners of the 77th annual Directors Guild Awards. On top of tonight’s celebration of the year’s best directed film and television the guild also honored two-time Oscar winner Ang Lee with a lifetime achievement award presented to him by Michelle Yeoh.

Sean Baker won the award tonight for Theatrical Feature Film for Anora. In a chaotic and wide-open Oscar race this was one of the most anticipated precursors of the year as the DGA has one of the best track records at the Oscars. In the past twenty years 18 of the winners went on to win the directing Oscar (Ben Affleck for Argo and Sam Mendes for 1917 were the only exceptions. This is our first real insight in the race for Best Director as last night’s winner at the Critics’ Choice Awards (Jon M. Chu for Wicked) was not even nominated tonight nor at the Oscars.
