The Hollywood Creative Alliance announced today that their upcoming award ceremonies for the Astra Film & TV Awards and the Astra Creative Arts Awards will take place during two ceremonies – a luncheon and a dinner gala respectively – on Sunday, December 8, 2024. Both events will be held at the Taglyan Complex in Los Angeles and will be recorded and streamed on Knekt.tv and YouTube.
Nominations for the 2024 Astra Film & Creative Arts Awards will be announced on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 10:00am PDT via press release and on Instagram, Facebook, and X. Select categories from this summer’s postponed Astra TV Awards will be presented in conjunction with the two events.
Emmy and NAACP award-winning comedian, host, actress, and author Loni Love will be the host of the 2024 Astra Film & TV Awards. Love began her stand-up comedy career in 2003 and was a co-host on the syndicated daytime talk show The Real. She currently hosts the podcast Grown Ass Women Talking and is on a nationwide stand-up tour titled A Time to Laugh.
Actor, writer, and comedian Peter Kim will host the Astra Creative Arts Awards. Peter Kim is a stand up comedian, writer and actor who has been named JFL’s New Face of Comedy, and a series regular on Prime Video’s animated comedy Fairfax. His other screen credits include Shrinking, Frasier, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. As a screen writer, Kim was staffed on the latest two seasons of FOX’s House Broken and has developed half-hour pilots for ABC, FOX, NBC and Disney Channel. Peter Kim also serves as the writer of both ceremonies.
It has also been revealed that a category for Best Performance in a Horror or Thriller will be added to the Astra Film Awards lineup. This new addition comes after members of the guild expressed interest in recognizing the impact that the horror genre has had on the entertainment industry. Horror, as a genre, has been often overlooked despite years of noteworthy performances that deserve to be part of the awards conversation. The organization also revealed that they will be adding a new honorary award specifically focused on Horror. More information about that award to come.
Four-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood will be the recipient of the Inaugural Artisan Icon Award at the 2024 Astra Creative Arts Awards ceremony. As a costume designer, Atwood’s career has spanned over five decades with more than 100 credits in film and television. Atwood has frequently collaborated with some of the biggest filmmakers in the industry including Tim Burton, Rob Marshall, Jonathan Demme, Michael Mann, and David Yates. This year, Atwood reunited with Burton to bring the twisted and demented world of Beetlejuice back to life with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Oscar-winning filmmaker and Emmy-award winning composer and musician Kris Bowers will receive this year’s Artisan Achievement Award at the Astra Creative Arts Awards. Bowers, who won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short earlier this year, is being celebrated for his remarkable body of work as a composer. Over the past 15 years, Bowers has composed more than 50 scores that have led to numerous award nominations and wins. Some of Bowers’s most notable film and television scores include Dreamworks’ The Wild Robot, Netflix’s Bridgerton, Universal Pictures’ ’Green Book, and Warner Bros’ King Richard.
Emmy-nominated Actor turned Cinematographer Giovanni Ribisi will receive the Artisan Breakthrough Award for his work on J.T. Mollner’s Strange Darling. The film marks the first time that Ribisi has worked as a Cinematographer on a feature length film. In the past, Ribisi has served as a cinematographer on music videos for Jónsi, Drift and Beck. His eye for detail on Strange Darling showcases that this project is just the start of a very long career for Ribisi as a cinematographer.
Angeline Walsh’s independent web series The Coroner’s Assistant will receive the inaugural Indie Series Spotlight Award. This award recognizes an independently funded web or television series with a budget under $100,000 dollars. The Coroner’s Assistant, which can be viewed on YouTube, was a labor of love for Walsh and the cast and crew. The series was nominated for six Indie Series Awards, of which it won three.
