This week’s podcast is an Emmy Lead Actress breakdown for contenders across Comedy, Drama, and Limited Series races.
We’re approaching the end of the 2025 Emmy eligibility window. We’ve previously discussed Drama Series, Comedy Series, and Limited Series contenders, so it’s time to focus on performances. This week, we’re looking at the 2025 Emmy Lead Actress contenders in all three major races: Lead Comedy Actress, Lead Drama Actress, and Lead Limited Series Actress. One of these races has a more contenders than the other two. Have a listen and see which one it is!
But first, we review the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ recently announced rule change. Among other smaller updates, the 98th Oscars will require Academy members to prove they’ve watched films for the second / final round of Oscar voting. Will this ultimately impact the winners? Or is this a weak sauce change?
We close our podcast with the Flash Forward to the media we’re most anticipating in the upcoming week.
If you haven’t heard it yet, take a listen to our spin-off series, Desperate Housewives Revisited, where Joey and Clarence look back at the first season of Marc Cherry’s 2004 phenomenon.

There are occasions where repeat winners are valid and worthy of celebration (Candice Bergen). And then there's those annoying times where are voters just goddamn lazy and just vote her over and over, quality irrelevant (looking at YOU, Jean Smart). She's not that great. Overcompensating for not honoring her for Designing Women back in the day. Good for her trophy cabinet, boring for the rest of us.
Drama Actress
Gonna be happy for the likes of Bella Ramsey, Britt Lower & Kathy Bates to dominate the race it just saddens me that the likes of Lynskey & Moss who I've adored in seasons past are gonna get nominated again when the likes of Marisa Abela & Myha'la (Industry) & Kim Min-ha (Pachinko) will be ignored when they are did far greater work this season and would make the lineup far more exciting.
Comedy Actress
Jean Smart is of course brilliant on Hacks but like with the Candice Bergens, Helen Hunts & Julia Louis-Dreyfuss' of years past repeat winners dominated this category is so disappointing as we have been spoiled for leading women in comedies in recent years and the list of women awarded the win amounting to not too many names will always disappoint. Natasha Rothwell would make a worthy nominee for the sadly cancelled too earlier How to Die Alone but I guess I'll have to live with her getting her White Lotus nomination.
Miniseries/Movie Actress
Cate, Cristin & Michelle all seem pretty locked and all three would be worthy of the win I'm almost pulling for Milioti to win given her lack of name recognition in comparison to the other two and also the years of great television work she's put in never getting proper recognition to this extent before. Lola Petticrew NEEDS a nomination for their stellar work and I'm holding out hope there's enough people who've watched the show that they can make this top heavy category with at least two slots up in the air
