Today, Focus Features released the Bugonia teaser trailer. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things), the film stars 2-time Academy Award winner Emma Stone as a high-powered CEO, or the “queen bee” of this world. Two conspiracy obsessed “worker bees” (Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis) believe Stone to be an alien and eventually kidnap her. The screenplay comes from Emmy winning Succession and The Menu writer Will Tracy.
The film also features several frequent Lanthimos collaborators including 2-time Academy Award® nominee and longtime editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis (who has edited all of Lanthimos’ films), 2-time Academy Award nominated cinematographer Robbie Ryan (fourth time collaborating together in a partnership that includes Poor Things and The Favourite), Academy Award winning production designer James Price (Poor Things), and Academy Award nominated composer Jerskin Fendrix (Poor Things).
We’ll know more when Bugonia lands in theaters this October after a presumed fall festival run. Maybe we’ll end up seeing this at the Telluride Film Festival as Lanthimos’s Oscar-winning Poor Things dropped there two years ago.
Focus Features will release Bugonia with special limited engagement on October 24th, ahead of a wide expansion on October 31st.
