The Indie Spirits sure are glowing this morning

The Independent Spirit Awards’ nominations are quite inspiring, if you ask me. Not only did Sean Baker’s Anora and Jane Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow lead the field with 6 nominations each, but categories are filled to the brim with inspired choices. Thought FX’s Shōgun was done collecting prizes? With the acclaimed series nabbing 5 nominations, be prepared to hear its named called again.

RaMell Ross’ Nickel Boys, which took two prizes yesterday at NYFCC, continues to strengthen its critics award presence and A24’s Sing Sing is re-emerging as a favorite. Sean Wang’s Dìdi scored 4 nominations with Joan Chen being mentioned in the Supporting Performance category. I personally loved seeing Corey Sherman’s Big Boys pop up in the John Cassavetes lineup and Isaac Krasner in Breakthrough Performance.

On the TV side, the acting categories are packed with great notices. Stephanie Koenig and Eric Colantoni are nominated in Supporting and English Teacher creator, Brian Jordan Alvarez, is up for Lead. Agatha All Along is represented by stars Kathryn Hahn, Joe Locke, and Patti LuPone. Julio Torres popped up for both Problemista in Film and Fantasmas in TV.

What are some of your favorite nominees of this year’s announcement?
