The trailer for Neon’s All of a Sudden has dropped, a film that’s been receiving strong reactions this year (I’ve heard a few festival-goers say it was their favorite).

From director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, All of a Sudden follows a director of a care facility for the elderly, Marie-Lou, who strives to introduce an innovative care philosophy based on listening and respecting residents’ dignity, despite resistance from part of her staff. Her encounter with Mari, a Japanese theater director battling cancer, will profoundly reshape her path. By forming a deep, supportive friendship, the two women join forces in a shared struggle to make the impossible possible.

All of a Sudden opens in New York & LA on November 25, 2026. It world premiered it Cannes where it won Best Actress for Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto. It will next screen at TIFF, followed by NYFF and is the newest film from Ryusuke Hamaguchi, the writer/director of the Academy Award winning DRIVE MY CAR.

All of a Sudden has also been selected to represent Japan this year at the Academy Awards for Best International Feature.
