NATAS Announces Doc Night Host For 46th Annual News & Doc Emmy® Awards

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced that comedian, filmmaker, and writer Negin Farsad will host the 46th Annual Documentary Emmy® Awards on June 26 in New York City. Farsad is known for her work at the intersection of comedy and social justice; she was named a TED Fellow and is a regular panelist on NPR’s Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me.

“Negin is a master of all genres—from comedy to romance to social justice—and she’s a prolific filmmaker and actress,” said Adam Sharp, President and CEO of NATAS. “She’s fearless, with a sharp wit that promises to be both timely and thought-provoking as we celebrate the year in documentary television.”

Presenters that evening will include Carrie Lozano (President & CEO, ITVS) to Lifetime Achievement Honoree Jon Else, along with Muta’Ali, Director & Executive Producer,“Moviepass, MovieCrash,” Joe Berlinger (Director & Producer, “Hitler and the Nazis: Evil On Trial,” Lisa Cortés, Director/Producer, “The Space Race,” Gabriela Cowperthwaite, Director, Writer & Producer, “The Grab,” and Barak Goodman, Director & Producer, “Kissinger.”

The 46th Annual News & Documentary Emmy® Awards will take place live at the Palladium Times Square in New York City. The ceremony will stream live on the NATAS viewing platform powered by Vimeo, available at watch.theemmys.tv and via The Emmys apps for iOS, tvOS, Android, FireTV, and Roku (complete list at apps.theemmys.tv).

 

About Negin Farsad

Negin Farsad is a comedian, filmmaker, and writer who was selected as a TED Fellow for her work in social justice comedy. Acting credits include UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT (NETFLIX), BULL (CBS), EMERGENCE (ABC), MURPHY BROWN (CBS), and HIGH MAINTENANCE (HBO), as well as the Hulu/Searchlight feature “Not Okay.”  Negin directed, wrote, produced, and starred in the romantic comedy feature “3rd Street Blackout,” alongside Janeane Garofalo, Ed Weeks, and John Hodgman. She directed and produced the documentary “The Muslims Are Coming!” starring Jon Stewart, David Cross, and Lewis Black. She’s a regular panelist on NPR’s WAIT WAIT… DON’T TELL ME, and her podcast FAKE THE NATION regularly draws top guests from the worlds of both politics and comedy. Farsad worked in public policy and local government in NY before transitioning into comedy. She once sued New York State’s MTA over the right to put up funny posters about Muslims and won!
