Dying for Sex Neighbor Guy Rob Delaney talks to The Contending about what it was like getting kicked in the crotch by Michelle Williams (meet-cute alert!).

Dying for Sex is about the enigmas of love and the human body, and it also holds the mystery of Rob Delaney’s character, who is only known as “Neighbor Guy.”

“I don’t care what his name is,” laughs Delaney in our video interview. “Not important to me.”

And yet what attracted Delaney to this project was that it was an amazing true story.

“The opportunity to work with Michelle Williams, Shannon Murphy, Kim Rosenstock, and Liz Meriwether, it was impossible to say no.”

What Happens to Dying for Sex Neighbor Guy?

In the FX limited series, Molly (Michelle Williams) first sees Neighbor Guy as the slovenly dude down the hall. But when she kicks him in the crotch (the ultimate meet-cute), something grows between them — and the bonding worked off-screen as well.

“It was fun, and it was also technical. That might have been the second scene we shot, and we didn’t really even know each other yet. That was interesting to really hit the ground running in the show and probably a good idea because it broke the seal, and we started right off doing crazy stuff. That scene was easy compared to the emotional heavy lifting that would come later.”

Of course, Neighbor Guy and Molly fall in love, as he helps her on her quest to achieve an orgasm with another person. But he also gets something in return.

“Neighbor Guy has a much, much brighter future at the end of this show before he met Molly. He’ll grieve of course, but she’s given him an unbelievable gift and shown a wonderful example to help him blossom and become a more open and trusting and daring person. And he gives her a pretty rich buffet of love and sex and honesty and vulnerability.”

Watch the full interview below where we discuss the emotional and physical demands of the role and how Molly changes Neighbor Guy’s life.
