“Love Is In the Air:” Is It Everywhere I Look Around Wisteria Lane?

A romantic Valentine’s date at between Mike and Susan ends as only their dates can in “Love Is In the Air.”

“Love Is In the Air,” Desperate Housewives‘ fourteen / Valentine’s Day episode, considers that love may indeed be in the air, but it’s definitely not everywhere you look around Wisteria Lane. Take Mike and Susan for example. He’s given her several reasons to doubt his credibility, but she remains love-struck. However, will a sudden revelation that Mike wants children of his own damage their relationship? And, if not that, then surely Mike rolling up to his first Valentine’s Day dinner with a gunshot wound might dampen the eventing.

Or will Rex’s revelation and deep-dive into sexual dominance test his healing relationship with Bree? Or does Gabby’s new turn as a mattress model put her in the mood for love? Or, finally, what about Lynette and the big “Love Thy Neighbor” commandment? How does she react to Mrs. McCluskey (the late, great, Emmy-winning Kathryn Joosten) and her accusations of the boys’ thievery?

“Love Is In the Air” gives strong storylines across the board. Gabby receives a well overdue comeuppance. Lynette finds a worthy adversary in Mrs. McCluskey. Bree again receives the best lines of the episode. Susan has a spectacularly bad Valentine’s Day date. All of which sets up a very entertaining hour on Wisteria Lane.
