This week, Steven Soderbergh’s spy drama Black Bag hits theaters, starring Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett as a married couple – who also happen to be spies – whose relationship is tested when one is accused of betraying their country.
To mark the occasion, our Top Ten Tuesday celebrates the career of two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett. Over the past 25 years, she has cemented her status as one of the greatest actresses of her generation. Along with her two wins, Blanchett has earned eight Academy Award nominations. Her latest (Tár, 2023) placed her in an exclusive four-way tie with Judi Dench, Geraldine Page, and Glenn Close as the fourth most-nominated actress of all time. Only Meryl Streep (21 nominations), Katharine Hepburn (12), and Bette Davis (10) have more. By the time her career is done, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if she were to rise even higher on that list.
Beyond her acclaimed performances, Blanchett has balanced blockbuster success with prestige cinema. She’s starred in iconic franchises like The Lord of the Rings, How to Train Your Dragon, and Thor, while also appearing in more Best Picture nominees (10) than any other actress. That achievement ties her with Jack Nicholson and Tom Hanks for third place among all actors – trailing only Leonardo DiCaprio (11) and Robert De Niro (12).

Wish I could answer but I'm waiting for digital release.
The last film that made me go to cinema was Dune Part 2, which was a huge personal exception (Had became a digital devotee shortly before pandemic).
