On Monday, the Golden Globe Foundation will present the nominations for the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, the 82nd edition. I actually had to look up who was in charge of them now, having totally forgotten that the Hollywood Foreign Press no longer exists. I do remember, of course, the controversy and the rehabilitation. However, last year, most nominees did show up at the televised ceremony and received their awards. Most of the 81st Golden Globe winners went on to win Academy Awards.
Of course, now that the Penske Media Corporation owns the Golden Globes, celebs will appear as per usual. The days of the boycott are gone, and they potentially matter again.
So, with that in mind, we do need to pay serious attention to this year’s nominees as it will help, in some cases, clarify who are truly frontrunners outside of the critics awards. Is this a “last stand” for Paramount’s September 5? Will they rescue Gladiator II after Elizabeth Taylor famously gave the original Best Drama? Will Wicked or Conclave or Emilia Pérez come away with the leading vote tally? All of these questions and more will be answered as the 2025 Oscar field clarifies a bit on Monday afternoon.
Here are our predictions in the film categories for Monday’s nominations. Check back at The Contending for the nominees and their reactions.
