Emmy winner Mike White’s return to The White Lotus received a leading 8 nominations at the 2025 Cooler Awards. As expected, the bulk of those nominations materialized in the supporting races. Four supporting actor performances received nominations, and three supporting actress performances merited nominations. In fact, in the supporting actress race, only two series were represented: HBO’s The White Lotus and HBO MAX’s The Pitt.
Several categories saw statistical ties, pushing the number of nominations beyond the minimum of five contenders per category.
On the comedy front, HBO MAX’s Hacks and AppleTV’s Shrinking tied with most nominations at 4 each. Interestingly, Shrinking received recognition for four of its performances, but it failed to receive a nomination for Comedy Series. Also surprising, the much acclaimed The Studio only received two nomination: supporting contenders Ike Barinholtz and Catherine O’Hara.
Netflix dominated the Limited Series races with Adolescence and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story each receiving five nominations. FX’s Dying For Sex followed closely with four nominations.
Final round voting for the 2025 Cooler Awards will kick off on Monday, August 18, here at The Contending. Winners will be announced September 12, two days before the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Just what IS IT about the White Lotus that makes people gaga like this? A GMOL, to be sure. (Great Mystery of Life). Somebody Somewhere, The Studio, The Diplomat, Slow Horses and The Last of Us should be in limited series as all of them are 7 episodes or less. Hacks remains overrated, and Jean Smart is the winner and still champeen poster girl for overcompensation (rubber stamping all those wins in awards shows from sea to shining sea the past 3 years to make up for not honoring her on Designing Women as much as they should have).
Now the Emmys have a quandry. Do they finally nominate the woman who has the best chance of upsetting Smart in the fall? Or do they screw her again for the 21st time? (Bell)
I have seen several of these nominees, yay! I am hoping that Jason Isaacs and Aimee Lou Wood score Emmys noms. 🙂 I loved Presumed Innocent and enjoyed what I have seen of The Pitt, Hacks, and Slow Horses.
