2025 BAFTA Longlist: Jolie and Leigh Miss

The 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards longlist was released, with Round 2 of voting running from today through January 10.

In recent years, BAFTA has been known for its hot takes (we all remember when Carey Mulligan didn’t get in for Promising Young Woman), and this year Angelina Jolie didn’t get in for Best Actress in a Lead Role for Maria. (But remember — Mulligan did end up getting an Oscar nomination!) However, Marisa Abela did get in for her turn as Amy Winehouse in the critically panned Back in Black.

Other notable misses include Mike Leigh in the Original Screenplay or Directing categories for Hard Truths. Plus, apparently BAFTA liked The Apprentice (it’s the film that won’t go away kind of like its titular character).

The EE BAFTA Film Awards ceremony takes place on Sunday 16 February 2025.
