Top Ten Tuesday: Golden Globe Wish List

Happy Tuesday, dear readers! Each week, we’ll rank the top 10 films in a specific category. While we aim to tie these lists to big releases, that won’t always be the case. Our goal? For you to enjoy, share your own lists, and join in on a lively, friendly debate. This is an interactive space to build community here at The Contending.

No fancy intros, no long essays – just a category and a list. Sound good?

The 82nd Golden Globe Awards ceremony takes place this Sunday, January 5, at 8pm ET. Despite recent controversy surrounding the lack of minorities in their membership, the Globes appear to be fully back and thriving. Since the altercation in 2022, the Globe membership has grown by over 50%, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association rebranded itself as the Golden Globe Foundation. In 2023, they were acquired by Penske Media – a whole other controversy in itself.

The organization has been honoring achievements in both film and television since 1944, serving as the launching pad for televised showbiz award ceremonies. You can find a complete list of their nominations here.

This week, let’s discuss our hopes, rather than our predictions, for a change. Consider this a wish list, if you will. You can find my Globe predictions at Gold Derby.

Ten winners I am hoping to see at the Golden Globes:

10. Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain) win Actor (Comedy/Musical) and Supporting Actor, respectively

9. Alien: Romulus shocks the world to win Cinematic and Box Office

8. Amy Adams (Nightbitch) shocks the world and baffles awards pundits by winning Actress (Comedy/Musical)

7. A Real Pain wins Picture (Comedy/Musical)

6. Ralph Fiennes and Isabella Rossellini (Conclave) win Actor (Drama) and Supporting Actress, respectively

5. Angelina Jolie (Maria) wins Actress (Drama)

4. Flow wins Animated Feature

3. The Brutalist or Conclave wins Original Score

2. I’m Still Here wins Non-English Film

1. Conclave wins Picture (Drama), Director (Edward Berger), and Screenplay

What are you most hopeful for at the Golden Globes?

I would love Amy Adams and Angelina Jolie wins. While they are so different, they are my top two performances of the year so far. Note: I have not seen Anora or The Brutalist yet.
