It seemed to take a while, but the Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA) finally wrapped their 2024 accolades with Sean Baker’s Anora taking home prizes for Best Picture, Best Lead (Mikey Madison), and Supporting Performance (Yura Borisov). I’d been expecting Anora to sweep several critics prizes, but this marks its first win for Best Picture. It also received Best Picture from the Boston Society of Film Critics (BSFC).
Mohammad Rasoulof received Best Director mentions for The Seed of the Sacred Fig. Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Hard Truths) shared Lead Performance honors with Madison, and Kieran Culkin (A Real Pain) shared Supporting Performance with Borisov. A Real Pain‘s Jesse Eisenberg took home a mention for Best Screenplay.
Nickel Boys, Challengers, and The Brutalist all took home mentions in the craft races.
