Shorts Exclusive: LA’s HollyShorts Becomes BAFTA-Qualifying, Announces First-Ever London Lineup
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

HollyShorts, one of the world’s most prestigious short film festivals, launches its London edition on December 6th. One of their esteemed panels will celebrate British Oscar winners and nominees, featuring Chris Overton who won an Academy Award for his short film THE SILENT CHILD, Misan Harriman who was nominated for a 2024 OSCAR for THE AFTER and Jamie Donoughue who was nominated for his short SHOK. This year the quadruple Oscar-qualifying Los Angeles film festival became BAFTA-qualified, perfect timing as they are celebrating their 20th year!

Some of the stars featured in these standout films include BAFTA rising star awardee Mia McKenna-Bruce in Louisa Connolly-Burnham’s SISTER WIVES, Joanna Lumley in Mika Simmons’ MY WEEK WITH MAISY, Bríd Ní Neachtain (The Banshees of Inisherin) stars in Portia A. Buckley’s HollyShorts USA’s Best on Film winner CLODAGH, Nicola Walker (Annika) in the British police procedural UNDER THE BLUE, Charlotte Riley (London Has Fallen) in WILD ANIMAL, Georgina Campbell (The Watchers) in CHAIRS, BLACK MARK the HollyShorts LA Best Sports Film winner, executive produced by former NBA star Matt Barnes, the music video THAT’S ON ME stars Ed Sheeran,  INDIGNITAS stars Mark Addy and CAMMY AND MIKE which is directed by Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia}.

HollyShorts OSCAR-qualifying Academy Awards hopeful ANUJA, directed by Adam Graves, was also selected to screen at the festival. Also featuring will be THE MASTERPIECE which won best international film at HollyShorts and the grand jury prize at Sundance. Maia Scalia’s HIS MOTHER was also an LA winner and is executive produced and edited by Academy Award winner Pietro Scalia.

A number of HollyShorts winners have gone on to take the top prize in the Academy Awards shorts categories, including Guy Nattiv’s SKIN and Riz Ahmed’s THE LONG GOODBYE.

The London edition of the festival is set to take place in the U.K. this December, from the 7th to the 8th at the Curzon Cinema in Soho, with a red carpet opening night and party on the 6th.
