Let the Conclave commence. SAG / AFRTA surprised by awarding the Ralph Fiennes-starring film the top at the 2025 SAG Awards. The win follows the recent very good weekend for the film at the BAFTA awards. Granted, Oscar voting is closed, so the win can’t have any impact on that race. But it’s clear the film isn’t completely out of the running for next weekend’s Oscars despite Anora‘s dominance at the PGA and DGA awards.
Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown) and Demi Moore (The Substance) took home trophies for their lead performances. As expected, Zoe Saldaña and Kieran Culkin took home supporting honors.
On the television front, Shōgun took home every award for which it was nominated including Ensemble in a Drama Series. On the Comedy front, SAG / AFTRA clearly loves the most recent season of Only Murders In the Building, which received awards for Ensemble in a Comedy Series and Lead Actor in a Comedy for Martin Short. Jean Smart, Colin Farrell, and Jessica Gunning also received SAG awards for their performances.

I like going into next Sunday's ceremony not having all four acting categories being foregone conclusions. The supporting races seem locked at this point, but I can see the lead actor and actress races going multiple different ways. And while I feel BP leans towards Anora at this point, I don't feel it's a done deal just yet.
